I AM NOT GUILTY FOR CUTTING A GOOD CAR! With a car as bad a shape as this one was in, don't expect it all to go back to stock! See previous videos.
Yes its time to build a chassis. All cars need a chassis and this '56 Oval VW Beetle will be getting an IRS pan from a 1975 Beetle. The reason I chose is:
1. IRS can be lowered better with less camber.
2. Already have a balljoint adjustable beam
3. Already have dropped spindles for the front
4. Already have 4 wheel disc brakes for IRS/balljoint car
5. Already have a 1975 pan in fair shape, lol!
When I get the body mounted I will show some of the conversion steps, there are a few differences between IRS pans and early Beetle body mounting points, particularly around the rear shock tower area.
History:
Almost immediately after the last video, and after I had cut off the front clip from this VW Beetle, I went to remove the steering column, and all hell broke loose... almost quite literally, too. I was forced to cut the car in half to stop the car from pulling itself apart further because straight cuts and proper body lines are much easier to work with. Surely I could have probably left it together as it was and braced and straightened things, but in order to reach the hard-to-reach areas for rust remediation it had to come apart anyway.
Looking forward - I will probably find myself selling off most of my VW stuff so I have more space to deal with rebuilding this car. Lots more on this in the future!
VW Beetle Floor Pan Replacement really isn't all that hard. If you've never replaced a VW floor pan this video is for you!
First you need to find the VW Floor Pans specific to your year. Once you've got those picked out then you remove the body and cut out the VW floor pan. Once the VW floors are removed, you then clean off any other rust with a wire brush and afterwards with a rust converter and let it sit overnight. The next morning you take your brand new VW floor pans and lay them in position in your chassis. Once you have your vw bug floor pan replacement parts in position, cut off any excess and align them properly. For floor pan replacement VW Beetle it really is that easy!
VW Thing floor pan replacement is exactly the same, however the vw floor pan repair is completed with much wider VW Floor pans such as those from a Karmann Ghia.
Yes, I know... the whole procedure wasn't completed in 25 minutes, but this video depicts how I did it in about 25 minutes of run time. :-P
