@audrey63924 years ago Guilty of marrying a position and over trading. I recently scalped when the market opened and gained almost
$100. As soon as i wake up, i noticed the index are open so i scalped again and gained over $400 but got too comfortable on my positions and when the market reversed and had my first loss, i didnt stop and insisted my usual positions ended up losing all my gains (and more)... This is definitely and eye opener to always follow the rules of never be greedy and exit once the market isnt in your favor. ... 25

There is an old saying that may help here. That is "I'd rather be rich than right!" So treat each trade as an individual decision realizing there will be another opportunity. And at the end of the day, you are measured by the money you make not the number of trades it takes to make it! ... 43

@krazywally56854 years ago I'd add that you must understand fully the instrument you are trading, for example trading indices which I do, not all indices are created in the same way, compare how the S&P500 is structured to that of the Dow. I'm based in Europe, my index of choice is the Dax 30 or the FTSE100 and I only trade when the underlying cash market is open. I avoid major economic news releases 30min before and after. I never trade off the open, rather let the market settle and pick off easy wins, this all helps avoid overtrading. If done correctly in a disciplined way scalping can be a very profitable enterprise. The market takes no prisoners and makes a lot of widows and orphans, so make sure you use proper risk management. ...

@renejrgensen98654 years ago You still need to learn that investing a margin of 1% is not equal to take a risk of 1%. If you let the loss run, then it can be 10% or something else. You need to calculate the loss when hitting the stop loss. If you decide that loss to be 1%, then and only then you have a risk of 1%. And you will find, that often you can invest a margin that i maybe 2% and still risk only 1%. This depend of the size of the stopp loss and not the margin. ...
