Chorale harmonisation is one of the most important techniques when it comes to arranging music for choirs and a cappella groups, so today we take a close look at this practise, and how it's done. In the process, we'll discuss the merits of working "backwards" when harmonising, and how to effectively use inversions, or chords where the bass note is a note in the chord other than the root, in our arrangements. You can find the resources I made during this video here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ANeVstIKz3mLU-yQU5MRFM1l1Er_IF5A Note that at about 45 minutes in I ran into some technical problems that, while they seemed resolved to me, ended up muting my pupil, so it does sound like I'm talking to myself for a large chunk of the video! I can assure you that he was very attentive, and fortunately I'm in the habit of repeating what my pupils tell me, so you should still be able to follow the video just fine! Music we listened to during the lesson: Palestrina: "Sicut servis" (/watch/)8BAh0EE5dy05A Tallis: "If ye love me" (/watch/)0Bd1j500tqe0d I mentioned a piece that uses suspensions very effectively; it's the opening movement from Pergolesi's "Stabat Mater" (/watch/)IAVFOGA4yfu4V . This is incidentally the piece that my friends Noel and Andrei performed all the way back my 2018 episode "The 'other' voice types" (/watch/)M1mvITholKtom ! The thumbnail features Sing Tower Hamlets, a London based choir. Choir With Knut is your number one resource for learning how to arrange for choral and a cappella groups! Through informative videos, you’ll learn about the voice types, how to structure a vocal arrangement or composition, how to go about arranging for voices/singing as opposed to other instruments, and all sorts of related topics, tricks and tips! #choir #acappella #arranging #arrange #choral #vocal #voices #acapella
